On the back of some nasty anti Muslim propaganda circulating around the Country Nottingham decided to hit back with a day of love and coming together.
There were a whole host of activities taking place around the City to showcase community and bring people together. From people handing out sweets and flowers in the City Centre to family activities, it seemed everyone wanted to prove that we stand together against hate.
We were keen to take part and were asked by the Nottingham Cohesion Team and Nottingham Together if we could run some sort of activity for families at their community event at St Christopher’s Church in Sneinton.
As we have recently moved to premises in Sneinton it was a perfect opportunity for us to give back to the local community, and what better way than to run our Happiness Bag activity – always a hit with children.
We use recycled fabrics to make treasure sacks that are filled with a variety of items that will ensure you stay happy – such as a marble, for when you are using yours, and a diamond, so you always have sparkle in your life.
Although we had some bags ready to fill, we also had some that needed sewing up and lots of people, young and old, took the opportunity to learn a life skill and do some hand sewing. They did a fabulous job and felt very proud of themselves when they filled their treasure sack and had their very own Happiness Bag to take away that they had made themselves.
It was a great day, with delicious food, lots of fun, colouring, painting, community and joy!
